Knees

Our orthopedic surgeons treat simple and complex knee conditions with advanced surgical techniques, including arthroscopic surgery and total knee replacement.

KneesTotal Knee Replacement

When medication, physical therapy and other treatments for arthritis of the knee are not successful, our experienced orthopedic surgeons offer total or partial knee replacement. Our surgeons have pioneered some of the most advanced knee replacement technology to help you to return to normal activities with little or no limitation.

We replace knees with durable, mechanical joints made from a combination of metal (cobalt and chrome alloys) and plastic (polyethylene). For people who have damaged cartilage in only part of a knee joint, a partial knee replacement can be performed.

ACL and Other Ligament Repair

One of the most common arthroscopic surgeries is repair of a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), the central stabilizing ligament of the knee. When it is torn, you can experience instability, especially in cutting and pivoting sports such as basketball, soccer and racquet sports, and also in daily activities. Our surgeons combine arthroscopic ACL surgery with aggressive rehabilitation to get you back to your life as quickly as possible.

Our surgeons also repair injuries to other knee ligaments – the medial collateral ligament and the posterior cruciate ligament.

Cartilage and Tendons

Tearing the cartilage called meniscus can be painful and lead to arthritis in your knees. These injuries usually begin with pain and swelling of the knee, and sometimes locking of the knee. Our surgeons can treat some of these tears with physical therapy, medication or cortisone injections, or with surgery.

Another common knee injury is the tendon that connects the kneecap to the shinbone. It is called the patellar tendon. This tendon can become inflamed or irritated, a condition called tendonitis. This injury often results from overuse and jumping and is often called "jumper's knee." Surgery is rare. Instead, our surgeons will recommend stretching exercises, anti-inflammatory medications and ice treatments.
